White Christmas

The hint of fall has come to the Upper Midwest, and while I am not yet ready for the flying flakes in the air, you just can't help but smile at the new White Christmas stamp set from Stampin' Up! It has plenty of images that are perfect for building a scene in your color palette. I added some dimensional snow effects for added texture.

After stamping my scene with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Whisper white cardstock, I colored with Belendabilities from the Coastal Cabana, Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler and Daffodil Delight trios. Although I considered brayering the sky instead of using markers, I decided I wanted a somewhat "rough" look of a winter-stormy sky so used the markers and really didn't blend them much to get that streaky light of snow clouds. I will have to try a brayered card too and see which I like better.

For the big puffy snowflakes, I found  an old Snow Marker in my stash. It is kind of a a paint-like consistency and once it dries, you heat it with your heat gun and it puffs up. I think the ginormous flakes give an interesting effect, and they are rather velvety to the touch. If I hadn't uncovered this in my cleaning, I think the Stampin' Up! chalk marker would have been great too.

The sentiment was stamped onto a strip of vellum and stapled to the image panel. Inside, there is an accompanying message and birch tree to finish off the card.

All of the supplies used are listed below and linked directly to my store for your 24/7 shopping convenience!

Also, don't forget to play along with the Late Night Stampers' Treasure Hunt and Blog Hop. You can find the links to the participants on the LNS Blog Addresses Tab above (updated today), and the directions for participation and entry in to the Grand Prize drawing are in my last post. Good luck!

Floral Thanks

Monday, Monday.... I didn't post this weekend because I was reorganizing my craft room. Dave and I picked up a great old pine cabinet and hutch and it is now sitting in my space. It took most of the weekend to scrub it out and get it ready to store my goodies, so there was no crafting going on this weekend. I will share a picture later this week. I think it is going to look great.

I do have a card for you today using Stampin' Up! Forever Florals and Lots of Thanks stamp sets. I also used some pieces from the February Paper Pumpkin kit to make the medallion for the Thanks sentiment.

I started by stamping the flower onto Whisper White card stock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then coloring the image with Old Olive and Calypso Coral Blendabilities. When done, I masked the flower and sponged the background with Tempting Turquoise and Daffodil Delight. The patterned paper is from the Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper. I used the sketch challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers (Sketch #498) for the layout.

If you love the colorful designer paper, it is still on sale for a few more days at buy 3 packs and get one free! Don't miss out on this deal.

Back to the craft room to finish organizing. More again soon.

Blendies Light Up My Life

Happy Thursday! It is supposed to be a beautiful day here in the Upper Midwest and I am looking forward to that indeed.

For today's project, I broke out the Blendabilities for some more practice. I selected the Chinese lanterns from the Today & Everyday Stamp Set. They looked like such fun to color - and they were. I am really getting used to the nuances of the Blendabilities and I really like them. As a Copic collector - er, user, I do think the Blendabilities are really easier to use right out of the package and get a good blend.  I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Whisper White.

While the Blendies were out on my desk I also colored some pearls with Old Olive for the card bottom.

The patterned paper is from Stampin' Up's! Sweet Taffy Designer Series pack. Did you know you can get a free pack of DSP when you buy three? But hurry, the deal ends at the end of this month, which is coming much too fast.

So are you looking for the details about the big event on August 25? Well, you will have to wait a few more hours - that post will go live this afternoon. Pop back in after lunch!
